Text Box: Colorado is already considering issuing fire restrictions and is rationing water in some areas. We are not quite in the situation that they are experiencing, but we need to prepare ourselves for that possibility. 
Last year we experienced two large wildland fire incidents, and numerous initial attack fires in Fremont County.  Because of our local fire departments, the Forest Service and BLM fire crews and their level of preparedness, we were able to keep the smaller fires from becoming larger incidents. 
Mother Nature’s cooperation and our level of preparedness are the keys to how we will be affected Text Box: The Rocky Mountain area of the United States is possibly looking at another extreme fire year. The recent snowstorms have brought some much-needed moisture to our snow pack in the mountains, but we are still setting at only 75% of our 30-year average in the Wind River Basin, and throughout most of the western United States. We will still need a lot of moisture to bring us any relief from the drought that we are currently experiencing. 
There are a lot of variables that come into play to determining the type of fire season that we could experience, but the outlook is not very encouraging at this point.

We have no control of the weather, but we can utilize the information that we have been given to reduce the hazards around our homes. 
One of my favorite quotes is applicable in this situation: “Prepare for the worst and pray for the best.” Utilize the information that is available to you through this and other programs and help yourself as well as your  local fire department to protect your home.
